This desert tour from Marrakech to Fez connects two of the most visited cities in Morocco. Let us take you from Fez to Marrakech, or the other way around from Fez to Marrakech. On our journey we will move through all of the beauty and diversity that the Moroccan nature has to offer us. We take you from the apricot colored sand dunes of Erg Chebbi by Merzouga to the tall gorges at Dades Gorge, the luscious date palm oases around Ouarzazate and of course the impressive Atlas Mountains.

3 day tour from Marrakech to Fes

Day 1: Marrakech » Rose Valley
Pick up from your hotel in Marrakech in the morning and transfer to the verdant oasis of Dades Gorge via the High Atlas Tizi-n-Tichka mountain pass. We also visit the World Heritage Site of Kasbah Ait Benhaddou, one of Morocco’s most spectacular ksour (dwellings) that once guarded the lucrative caravan route through the Atlas mountains. We continue through Ouarzazate and Kelaa Mgouna (Rose Valley) and leave the main route at Boumalne Dades. From here we drive along this oasis valley gorge of the River Dades with kasbah ruins, valley-floor gardens and the strange rock formations of the Tamnalt Hills. Here we will have dinner and spend the night in a hotel.

Day 2: Dades Valley » Merzouga
From Dades Gorge we will travel to Merzouga via the Todra Gorge (the highest oasis valley gorge in Morocco). We arrive in the desert where your guide and camels will be waiting to carry you across the sandy dunes of the Moroccan Sahara. We enjoy a camel trek as the sun sets across a desert landscape. After approximately one hour we reach our desert camp and home for the night: a traditional nomad tent. You are welcomed with traditional mint tea and freshly prepared tajine dinner.

Day 3: Merzouga » Fez
Rise early to greet the new day with a beautiful sun rise over the sand dunes. After breakfast in the desert we return to Merzouga for a fresh shower. From Erfoud we drive through the green valley of Ziz, full of date palms and green gorges. Then we continue onto the Middle Atlas Mountains passing the Swiss-like ski resort of Ifrane and the cedar forest and Barbary Apes of Azrou. In the late afternoon we arrive at Fes where we will bring you to your riad.

4 day tour from Marrakech to Fes


Day 1: Marrakech » Ouarzazate
Pick up in the morning from your hotel/riad in Marrakech and depart towards Ouarzazate via the Tickha Pass (2260m) the highest road pass in Morocco. The panoramic views of the High Atlas Mountains and magnificent landscapes, scenery peppered by small Berber villages typical of the region. Visit of Kasbah Telouet – an extraordinary sight of the Atlas, a palatial residence and headquarters of the powerful Glaoui tribe. Visit AiBen Haddou – UNESCO protected sight that inspired many movie makers. Then continue onto Ouarzazate where we will spend the night.

Day 2: Ouarzazate » Dades Gorge
In the morning we will visit the movie studios in Ouarzazate and another impressive Kasbah Taorirt. Continue your journey off road to the palm tree oasis of Fint. After a visit of Fint we follow the Road of Thousands Kasbahs. After the Skoura oasis we arrive in the Rose Valley. This valley is famous for the production of Moroccan roses and a wide variety of cosmetic products with roses. Then we pass the strange rock creation of Tamnalt Hills and arrive to Dades Gorge thas has been carved for centuries by the Dades River. Here we find a marvelous natural scenery of red and mauve rock towers above the road. We spend the night in Dades Gorge

Day 3: Dades Gorge » Merzouga
We leave Dades Gorge for the equally impressive gorge of Todra Gorges – the highest oasis in Morocco. Then we head towards Merzouga, visiting the ancient city of Rissani. When we arrive to Merzouga, your doorway into the desert, your camels will be waiting for you to carry you across the sandy dunes of the Sahara. We will enjoy a two hour camel trek while the sun sets across the desert landscape. When we arrive at the desert camp for the night, your guide will prepare for you some refreshing mint tea and dinner. The desert gives us a beautiful night full of stars under which you will spend the night in a traditional Nomad tent.

Day 4: Merzouga » Fes
Rise early to greet your new day with a beautiful sun rise over the sand dunes. After breakfast in the desert we return to Merzouga for a fresh shower. When we travel onto Efroud we will see the sudden change in scenery. The dry desert landscape will change into the green valley of Ziz, full of date palms and green gorges. Then we continue onto the Middle Atlas Mountains passing the Swiss-like ski resort of Ifrane and Azrou. Azrou is known for its cedar forests where colonies of Barbary Apes will keep you amused. In the late afternoon we arrive at Fes where we will bring you to your riad.

Marrakech to Fes


Day 1: Marrakech » Ouarzazate
Pick up from your hotel/riad at 9:00am and travel towards the High Atlas Mountains. We cross the mountains via the highest road pass in Morocco Tizi n Tichka (2270m) offering a marvelous scenery of mountains, valleys and Berber villages. Visit the extraordinary sight of the Atlas Mountains at Kasbah Telouet. This crumbling Kasbah belonged to the powerful Glaoui tribe remembered as the “vulture” sultan and his son who lived there until the 1950’s. Once a beautiful Kasbah, but still worth the visit today as the history and drama will unfold itself. Then you have the choice to take the main road or travel off road via the Ounila Valley. This route offers unparalleled views of green valleys, river and remarkable colored slopes and hillsides. On our tour of Morocco we also visit the amazing UNESCO protected 16th century sight of Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou. Take a walk or hire a donkey to carry you across the river to this Kasbah. Stroll the winding streets to the Kasbah to the upper level for awe inspiring views. Overnight in Ouarzazate or by Ait Ben Haddou in the house of a local Berber family.

Day 2: Ouarzazate » Dades Gorge
In the morning we visit the city of Ouarzazate, its famous Kasbah Taourirt, the residence of the Pasha of Marrakech. Then we take a route of the Thousand Kasbahs towards the Skoura Oasis. We take a lovely off road in the oasis passing the homes of the local people before we visit the famous Kasbah Amridil. Our Morocco Tour takes us then to the Rose Valley (El Kelaa M’gouna) known for production of Moroccan roses and its variety of beauty products. Our journey continues passing the strange rock creation of Tamnalt Hills, a bizarre rock creation resembling monkey feet. We will end our day at Dades Gorge and its deep gorge of red and mauve rocks. We will spend the night in Dades Gorge.

Day 3: Dades Gorge » Erg Chebbi
We depart from Dades Gorge to visit another deep oasis in Morocco, the Todra Gorge. The rock walls are 300 m tall and at their most narrow part, they are mere 20 meters apart. Spend some time appreciating this natural wonder before resuming your trip towards the Sahara Desert. Approaching Merzouga you will see the first sand dunes of the desert. There your camels will be waiting for you to carry you across the Erg Chebbi sand dunes. Travel on the back of your camels, or walk during a beautiful sunset. Spend the night in a Nomad tent in this traditional desert camp.

Day 4: Erg Chebbi » Erfourd
Rise early in the morning to greet the new day and watch the sunrise illuminating the desert. After mint tea and breakfast we return to Merzouga on our camels to take a shower before departure. Today we will enjoy the desert scenery and visit the seasonal lake of Tamezquidate. It has water generally from November to April or May. It is very beautiful and unique to see the contrast between the water and the sand dunes of Sahara Desert. The lake is also home to several bird species. Visit the ancient city of Rissani, where many old Arab dynasties came from. We see men wearing the indigo blue robes that are traditional for the Saharan people. We enjoy the visit to the old Kasbah, where people still live today and we can possibly visit the market. Then your Morocco adventure continues towards Erfroud, known for its date palm trees and its yearly date palm festival. The night will be spend in Erfourd

Day 5: Erfourd » Fes
This morning we depart from Erfourd and travel along the scenic Ziz Valley passing many palm groves and green valleys. You will encounter many local Nomads herding their animals, living in the tents in the fields. View the city of Azrou, famous for woodwork and gorgeous red carpets. Near Azrou  we will visit the cedar forests where colonies of Barbary Apes will keep you amused. Then your journey will take you to the city of Ifrane that looks like a Swiss village and is a popular ski resort. In the late afternoon we arrive at Fes where we will bring you to your riad.
